Richard H. Held, Sr., 80, of Marion, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2011, at Garden View Chapel in Waterloo. Family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday, November 4, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Garden of Memories, Waterloo.
He is survived by his wife Joyce; five children, Monica (Jeff) Simmons of Ely, Lynda (Roger Pitlik) Nebel of Lisbon, Jill (Lester) Schmitz of Cedar Rapids, Mary Bolyard of Cedar Rapids, and Rick (Angie) Held of Marion; twelve grandchildren, Angel (Joe) Moores, Missi (Nathan) Pata, Sarah (Jason) Miller, Jackie (Geoff Dye) White, Michele (Shawn) Munson, Anna Nebel, Amy (Steve Deyo) Schmitz, Keith (Brooke Teachout) Schmitz, Jason Bolyard, Amanda Bolyard, Ally Held, and Hailey Held; eleven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jim (Dorothy) Held of Sun City West, AZ, and Tom (Vicki) Held of Waterloo.
Richard was born March 17, 1931, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Harry John and Oda J. (Andreassen) Held. He graduated from Waterloo East High School. On December 27, 1951, he was united in marriage to Joyce Alexander in Waterloo. He served in the United States Navy for four years. Richard worked as a Sr. Field Engineer at IBM for 32 years.
Richard enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of First Methodist Church in Marion. Richard ran the Computer Club in Mesa, AZ. He enjoyed going fishing in Canada, traveling, camping, bowling, and his friends and activities in Mesa, AZ. Richard was an avid Packers and Phoenix Suns fan. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Richard was devoted to the love of his life, his wife Joyce.
