Randall Dale “Randy” Townsend, 65, of Anamosa, died Tuesday, September 11, 2012, at the VA Hospital in Iowa City, following an extended illness. Celebration of Life: 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 16, 2012, at Rotary Lodge at Wapsipinicon State Park in Anamosa. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; three children, Cory (Jaime) Townsend, Dana Weber, and Jon Townsend; a son-in-law, Kyle Weber; six grandchildren, Kaela, Madison, Cole, Chandler, Camden, Kaitlyn, and “papa” to many more.
Randy was born April 15, 1947, to an extended family. He graduated from Anamosa High School in 1965. Randy married Carol Achenbach on February 28, 1970, in Anamosa. He worked as a plater at Rockwell Collins before serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Crisis. Randy was stationed in Germany. He protected the border of Russia. After the war he worked as an electrician for IBEW #405 in Cedar Rapids. As a journeyman he instructed new apprentices to the electrical construction trade.
Randy was an active member of Whitetail’s Unlimited. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting, trapping, archery, guns and knives. Randy enjoyed teaching his skills to others at hunter’s safety courses and teaching all ages archery at the Anamosa Bow Hunter’s Club. He was a devoted family man.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Randy’s memory.
