Norman Glen Fitzgerald

Norman Glen Fitzgerald, 90, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa, surrounded by his family. The family will greet friends from 9 - 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, preceding the 11 a.m. Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Norman was born on March 8, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of James and Berniece (Hempy) Fitzgerald. He was a 1952 graduate of Marion High School and went on to attend Iowa State. On February 14, 1992, Norman was united in marriage to Janice Bailey at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He was a farmer and worked for Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, for 30 years, until his retirement. Norman continued to farm long after retirement. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing games, working puzzles, bowling, traveling, and being outdoors. He also enjoyed collecting Allis Chalmers Tractors, running his train set, watching NASCAR and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Norman will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Norman is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 32 years, Janice Fitzgerald; five children, Steve (Linnae) Fitzgerald of Monticello, David (Patricia) Fitzgerald of Springville, Ann Knupp of Springville, Matt Fitzgerald of Olin, and Mary (Rick) Nelson of Cedar Rapids; three stepchildren, Janlyn (Gary) Slach of West Branch, Iowa, Deborah (Lyle) Schuette and Jay Bailey, both of Wichita, Kansas; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one great-granddaughter.
