Michele was born May 17th, 1961, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Richard and Lillian Jacobs. Graduating from Kennedy High School, she went on to study botany and enter the workforce. She was united in marriage to Brian Cariveau on May 20th, 1994. She was a stay-at-home mother to her son Wiatt. Her avid love for life and curious mind led her to pursue myriad passions throughout her life, including cultivating a lush garden, volunteering as a nurse at Mercy and an astronomer at the Eastern Iowa Observatory, studying martial arts, and writing and sharing her poetry. Michele was a life-long reader and got through many libraries’ worth of books. She also loved the outdoors and had a special talent in her youth for barrel racing with her father’s horse Red, and later a hobby of camping and trout fishing with her friends and family.

Michele is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, Wiatt Cariveau of Chicago, stepdaughter Angelia Bensen of Port Washington, Wis., brothers Mike (Cindy) Jacobs and Wayne (Melissa) Jacobs, stepmother Thelma Jacobs, grandchildren, Raymond, Isaac, Nicholas, and Ashley; and many nieces, nephews, stepbrothers and sisters, and many others who she gave her light.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

The family requests no flowers or plants, memorials may be directed to The Eastern Iowa Observatory and Learning Center, 1365 Ivanhoe Road, Ely, Iowa 52227; or The University of Iowa Physics and Astronomy Fund at donate.givetoiowa.org.
