Mavis Haas, 76, of Earlville, died Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City, following complications of surgery.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 19, 2009 at the United Parish Church in Earlville by Pastor Jill Mack. Family will greet friends, Sunday, January 18 from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home in Earlville. Burial will in the Oakland Cemetery, Manchester at a later date.

Mavis was born June 18, 1932 in Delaware, Iowa the daughter of Harvey and Hazel (Shaw) DuBois. She attended school in Manchester and worked at the Telephone Company in Manchester. December 16, 1949, Mavis was united in marriage to Nicholas LaVerne Haas in Winthrop, Iowa. The couple lived in Manchester and Dubuque, before moving to Earlville in 1971. Nicholas died April 15, 1999.

Mavis was a devoted housewife and mother who loved spending time with her family.
She enjoyed playing cards, putting together puzzles and watching the cardinals in her backyard.

Left to honor her memory are two daughters, Pamela (Joe) Hoerner of Davenport and Sheryl (Andy) Randall of Madison, WI; daughter-in-law, Del Rose Haas of Earlville; siblings, LaVerne (Nina) DuBois of Salina, KS, Howard (Pat) DuBois of Parkin, AK, Alice DuBois of Atkins and Edith Neidert of Marion; four grandchildren, Jessica, Dakota, Nicole and Laura; and five great-grandchildren, Alexis, Mercedes, Landyn, Brenyn and Gabriel.

Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Hazel DuBois; her husband, Nicholas LaVerne Haas; one son, Dennis LaVerne Haas; and siblings, Charlotte Downs and Edward DuBois.
