Mary Ann Wichman, 80, formerly of Marion, died Tuesday Dec. 17, 2013 in Chanhassen, Minnesota, following a brief illness. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 21, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, December 20, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, where there will be a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Mary Ann was born December 8, 1933, in Guttenberg, Iowa. She later moved to Cedar Rapids where she met and married H. Joseph Wichman in 1960. She and Joe relocated for a time to Farmers Branch, Texas and later to Sedalia, Missouri. In 1974, the family moved back to Iowa and settled in Marion. There she enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends, bowling, golf and following Hawkeye basketball and football. In 1995, the Lord took her life companion, Joe. In 2011, she relocated for the last time to be closer to her daughter in Chanhassen, Minnesota, where she thrived on the time spent with her beloved granddaughters, Caitlin and Allie.
Survivors include her son, Brian of Cedarburg, Wisconsin; daughter, Mary Jo (Kevin) Maloney of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Allie, Erica (Mike) Landgraf and Caleb and Alexander, Travis (Geena) Skowronski and Harper and Casey Skowronski and Jarrett; brothers, Florian Goedken and Joe (Paulette) Goedken, both of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Viola Tschirgi of Elkader, Iowa and Rose Marie (Lynn) Wolf of Marion, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Mary (Earl) McDermott of Cascade, Sister Mary Cephas Wichman of Cedar Rapids, Madonna Einwalter of Ft. Atkinson, Eleanor Burke of Elma, Iowa, Margaret (Dick) Reginold of Fairbank, Iowa, Lynnette (Paul) Ellefson of Mesa, Arizona, and Elaine (Al) Spence of Rudolph, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Robert (Marian) Wichman of Cedar Rapids and Leo (Mary) Mihm of Portland, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe; her parents, Aloys and Sylveria; her brother, Lavern; and her sister, Wilma Burkle.
