Marvin Sutton, Sr., 86, of Marion, formerly of Alburnett, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Visitation: 3 – 6 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2016, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2016, conducted by Pastor Jon Moss at the funeral home with a visitation one hour prior to service. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Norma; his children, Debbie (Stacey) Frank, Pam (Matt) Shoup, Shelia (Bob Jansen) McEowen, and Marvin Jr.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Dale (Donna Mae) Sutton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; three sisters; and two brothers-in-law.

Marvin was born April 24, 1930, in Dysart, the son of Frank and Ella (Kersten) Sutton. He graduated from Garrison High School and then attended Dunwoody College in Minnesota. On July 5, 1953, Marvin was united in marriage to Norma Fossett in Vinton and then moved to Cedar Rapids. In 1963, they moved outside of Alburnett to an eighty acre farm. He worked at Rockwell Collins for 35 years, retiring in 1986. After retiring, they made and sold wooden puzzles, and later scroll saw projects. Marvin collected John Deere toys and enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and word searches. The couple had enjoyed visiting all fifty states during their many years of camping. His family was important to him and he always enjoyed spending time with them.

He was a member of the Alburnett United Methodist Church and Alburnett Historical Society. Marvin was a member of the Alburnett Lions Club for 50 years and received the Warren Coleman award for dedicated service in the Lions organization.
