Mark George Henderson, 66, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, after an 8 year battle with Lewy-Body Dementia. Visitation will be held 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2018, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2018, at the funeral home.

Mark was born October 30, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Ollie and Anna (Probst) Henderson. After graduating from Washington High School in 1970, Mark attended Ellsworth Community College before taking over as Property Manager for the Henderson family business (OEH Inc.). He retired from working in 2011.

Mark met his wife, Sherri Whitecotton, 47 years ago in Cedar Rapids. They married on December 20, 1986. Together Mark and Sherri had 2 daughters. Over the past 12 years, Mark's family grew to include 2 granddaughters, and another granddaughter arriving this November.

Mark was a kind, gentle soul with a great sense of humor. He was a hard worker throughout his life and always made sure his girls were well taken care of. Mark was a lover of music, especially Neil Young, The Beatles, The Eagles, Tom Petty, and several others. He enjoyed going to concerts, watching movies, and classic TV shows like Andy Griffith. When Mark wasn't working or relaxing at home with family, you could find him driving around Cedar Rapids in his truck checking on properties and "closing the gates." Later in life he enjoyed playing the slot machines at the casino. Mark enjoyed Cedar Rapids history and had a very detailed memory of this city from his many experiences growing up.

Mark will be deeply missed by his wife, Sherri, and their two daughters Alicia (Damon) Hines, and Hayley (Justin) Coughlin, as well as Mark's daughter Paige Bauer of Long Beach, California. His granddaughters Gracie and Josie Hines, and soon to be Baby-girl Coughlin, will miss their "Papa." Mark is also survived by his sister, Linda (Henry) Nicholson; sisters-in-law, Sue (David) Elvestad of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Sally (Randy) Nazette of Cedar Rapids; and brother-in-law Jeff (Nancy) Whitecotton of Maple Grove, Minnesota. In addition, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Babs Whitecotton; as well as many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends. Mark considered his special caregiver, Shawn Leuck, a member of the family and affectionately referred to him as "The Boy" for all of the quality time he spent taking Mark to concerts, trips, and the casino.

The staff at Hallmar went above and beyond to care for Mark. Their love for him and their dedication to his comfort brought peace to his family during his final months. We truly appreciate what they do, and want to express our sincere gratitude for their outstanding service.
