Marie “Nanny” A. Niles, 88, of Syracuse, New York, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In agreement with her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services at this time. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Nanny was born on July 20, 1935, in Paul Smiths, New York, the daughter of Gordon and Kathryn (Gray) Stickney. She worked as a barmaid for over 25 years. Nanny was a foster grandparent for many years. She loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, and word searches. Nanny was the best grandmother ever and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Nanny is survived and lovingly remembered by her two granddaughters, Tamika (Jeremy) Etter of Cedar Rapids, and Jelene Kirkpatrick of Liverpool, New York; six great-grandchildren, Ian Kratzer, Alyssia Ortman, Tad Kratzer, Sean Kirkpatrick, Zak Kratzer, and Jaxson Kirkpatrick; many nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Dolly Stickney of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Kalene (John) Kirkpatrick; sisters, Helen McCarthy, Carol Murray, Margaret Snyder, and Kathleen Saumier; and brother, Gordon Stickney.
