Lowell E. Morgan, 80, of 3365 Willowridge Rd., died Saturday, December 16, 2006, at home. Services: 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2006, at First United Methodist Church at the corner of 8th Avenue and 12th Street in Marion by Rev. Melisa Bracht-Wagner with military honors by American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion. The family will greet friends at the church from 3-7 p.m. Monday. Private family inurnment will be at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.

Lowell E. Morgan was born January, 18, 1926, near Fostoria, Iowa. He graduated from Spencer High School and farmed near, Spencer, Iowa, for several years. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War, 1950-1952. Lowell and Mona Lawlor were married in Storm Lake, IA, in 1955.

Lowell earned his B.A. at Buena Vista College and his Master of Education degree at the University of South Dakota. He took advanced work at several universities.

Lowell taught and served as high school principal in Callender and Moville, IA, before moving to Marion, IA, in 1965. He was high school principal at Marion Independent School until 1977 and then taught at Vernon Middle School until his retirement in 1988. Lowell was inducted into Marion Independent School?s Hall of Fame in 2002.

Retirement gave Lowell time to pursue many volunteer interests. He and Mona participated in numerous church sponsored work projects throughout the country. They also did volunteer work for the National Park Service, Habitat for Humanity, and RSVP.

Lowell was an enthusiastic community supporter, helping with Marion celebrations through the year. His membership in First United Methodist Church, Evening Host Lions Club, Trojan Lodge #548 AF & AM (where he was Past Master), and the American Legion gave him further service opportunities. Lowell was particularly interested in the public library where he volunteered regularly in both the library and in the Friends of the Library bookstore. At various times he held offices in his church, on the library and Friends of the Library boards, in the Association of Secondary Principals, in Junior Achievement and in all the service clubs to which he belonged. Lowell was named Marion?s Citizen of the Year in 2005 and Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year in 2006.

Lowell is survived by his wife, Mona, their children, and grandchildren. Mark Morgan and his wife, Sheryl, are the parents of Leann and Dan. Mike Morgan and his wife, Theresa, are the parents of Sarah and Lisa. Cheri Morgan Pettibone and her husband, Roy, are the parents of Travis. Currently all three families live in Marion. Lowell?s family was the love of his life and he was completely devoted to them.

Also surviving Lowell are his sister, Gretchen Hagedorn and her husband, Lowell, Mona?s sisters, Sharon Romano and Maureen Friedrich and her husband, Reiny, as well as nephews and nieces. Lowell?s parents, Ellis and Pearl Eggers Morgan, preceded him in death.
