Lola Jean Rawlins McCormick, 90, died suddenly Sunday, December 28, 2014. Funeral Services: 10:30 am Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at the funeral home. There will be an Eastern Star Service beginning at 3:45 pm Tuesday prior to the visitation. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her daughter, Sally (Jeff) Hill of Marion; her special dog, Harlem; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bobbie; and her nephew, Gar McCormick.
Jean was born on July 7, 1924, the daughter of Dawson and Marguerite (Alexander) Rawlins in Monticello, Minnesota. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids in 1943. Jean then went on to graduate from Coe College in 1946 with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. On July 16, 1955, she married Bobbie Dean McCormick at the First United Methodist Church in Marion.
Jean was employed as a receptionist for Eddy Paper and Cherry Burrell. Jean was a member of Marion Chapter Eastern Star where she served as Chapter Secretary for 26 years. She also served twice as Mother Advisor to the Marion Rainbow Girls. Jean enjoyed volunteering for the Cedar Valley Humane Society and the Iowa Masonic Library. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Marion Historical Society, and the Friends of the Marion Library.
Jean was an avid reader who loved flowers, animals, and Hawkeye football. Jean enjoyed traveling, and accomplished her goal of traveling to every state. She was very devoted to her family and will be greatly missed.
