Leroy Robert Holub, 89, of Central City, died Sunday, August 18, 2013, at his home. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 22, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairieburg. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Prairieburg.

Survivors include his two nieces, Karen (Richard) Vanourney of Central City, and their family, and Cheryl (Randy) Hagerman of Central City, and their family; his four nephews, Gene (Zona) Holub of Coggon, and their family, Gary Holub of Marion, and his family, Arnold Holub of Monticello and his family, and Jerry (Barb) Holub of Cascade and their family; and special relatives, Gene and Diane Kula of Springville, and their family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret; his brothers, Emil and Harry Holub; and niece, Mary Kathryn Holub.

Leroy was born October 15, 1923, in rural Linn County, Iowa, the son of Albert B. and Mary Holub. He attended Prairieburg schools. Leroy married Margaret Edgerly on August 19, 1946, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Margaret died November 23, 2007. Leroy was proud of being a farmer in the Central City area for many years. He also ran the Prairieburg hog buying station. Leroy was very welcoming, if you stopped by his home, you were always invited to stay for dinner, and he was an excellent cook! He loved kolaches, and had a Polka Party every Sunday morning.
