She was preceded in death by her son, Brett John Murdoch; mother, Ellen Rae; brother, Mark Rae; brother-in-law, Garth Powers; and father-in-law, George Murdoch.

Kathy was born November 25, 1959, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Harrison and Ellen (McCann) Rae. She attended Marion High School as part of the Class of 1978. On April 19, 1980, Kathy married John Murdoch, at First United Methodist Church, Marion, Iowa. Together they had their three children, Brett, Jaime and Hailey. They later divorced. Kathy worked many years as an administrative assistant for the City of Marion. She was a lifelong resident of Marion, Iowa, and loved the community. Kathy was a member of Marion Methodist Church.

Kathy greeted everyone with a smile, an abundance of kindness, and never met a stranger. Her greatest joy in life came from being a mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she enjoyed spoiling them and doing special activities with each of them. She loved gardening, baking, reading, floating in the pool, board games and loud, happy family gatherings. Over the last several years, her health wasn’t always on her side, but she never waivered in her love and faith in Jesus and found strength where many others wouldn’t. The last three years she lived with Jaime and her family and stayed many weekends with Hailey and her family enjoying so many special moments with them and creating so many lasting memories. This time will forever be cherished by them all.
