Joyce Marilyn (Fosdick) Parks, 82, of Marion, died November 24, 2011, at her home of Alzheimer’s disease. Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at First United Methodist Church in Marion. Family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. Monday, November 28, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Howard C. Parks; daughter Diana (Tom) of Waterloo; son, John (Linda) of Lenexa, KS; sister, Dolores Buelle of East Moline, IL; four grandchildren, Mike (Dewey) Parks of Des Moines, James (Helen) Parks of Williamsburg, Kate (Dana) Goshon of Marion, Jen Longworth of Independence, MO; and three great-grandchildren, Jamison, Hayden, and Morgan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Donald and Bob Smith.
Joyce was born August 19, 1929, in Mason City, the daughter of John and Nellie (Anderson) Fosdick. Joyce graduated from Marion High School in 1947. The summer after graduation she worked at Camp Good Health where she met Howard Parks. They married the next year on November 21, 1948. Joyce graduated from Mount Mercy College in 1977, second in her class, and taught for several years. A lifetime member of First United Methodist Church in Marion, she served in many capacities. Having lived in Marion her whole life, she was deeply interested in the history of Marion and the impact of the Milwaukee Railroad on the town. She helped in the founding of the Marion Heritage Center and began the Marion Cemetery Walk. She enjoyed working in her garden, the company of good friends and all kinds of music.
