Jon Joseph Derflinger
July 2, 1953 — April 15, 2007
Jon Joseph Derflinger, 53, of Central City, died Sunday, April 15, 2007, at St. Luke?s Hospital, following a valiant battle with cancer. Services: 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2007, at United Church of Christ in Central City by Rev. Jonna Jensen. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Jordon?s Grove Cemetery, rural Central City.
Survivors include his wife, Wendy Geertz of Central City; a son, Joseph (Angela) Derflinger of Cedar Rapids; his mother and step-father, Evelyn (Don) McLeod of Forney, Texas; two sisters, Sharron (Ventura) Alcantar of Beebe, Arkansas, and Jane McKie of Columbia, Missouri; a grandchild, Jon Jason; and a nephew and three nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph.
Jon was born July 2, 1953, the son of Joseph and Evelyn Heefner in Cedar Rapids. Jon married Wendy Geertz June 29, 2004. Their civil marriage was blessed on May 22, 2005. Jon worked as a design drafter at Henderson Manufacturing. He also worked at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids and ABC Childcare in Central City.
Jon was very artistic and was an accomplished photographer and woodcarver. He also loved hunting and fishing. Jon was a member of Central City Main Street Iowa Board of Directors as well as the design committee.
Jon was a very active member of United Church of Christ in Central City. He had a deep love for his church and all its members.
