Joan Weldon, 81, of Hiawatha, Iowa, passed away on Friday, May 05, 2017, at the Hiawatha Care Center. Visitation: 5 – 7 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2017, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids and from 10 am to service time on Tuesday. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 9 at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Joan was born in Dubuque, Iowa, on November 27, 1935. She lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she worked for Square D, General Mills, and as a CNA.
She is survived by her children, Brook (Kindee) of Swisher, Iowa, Brian (Cammy) of Waterloo, Iowa, and Jill (Brent) Schlotfeldt of Center Point, Iowa; a sister, Carole (Redge) Henline of Fort Worth, Texas. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Joan was preceded in death by her son, Bart; parents, Ruth and Harry Kluck; three brothers, Jim, Tom, and Lloyd; and a sister, Pat.
Joan enjoyed traveling, sewing, crafts and spending time in her flower garden. She loved listening to big band music. She was a caring mother, not only to her children, but was a mother figure to many. For the past 10 years, Joan was completely blind due to macular degeneration. Joan was an encouragement with her positive attitude and faith. She enjoyed hearing about people’s lives and loved sharing her life experiences with others. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were precious to her and she enjoyed every moment she spent with them.
Joan’s family would like to extend a special Thank-You to the entire staff at the Hiawatha Care Center for their care and compassion always shown to Joan and her family.
