Joan Foster, 79, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, March 6, 2021, at the Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa, after a battle with cancer. Funeral service will be held at Sharon United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids on March 13th at 2 p.m., livestream will be offered as well.

Joan was born on June 21, 1941, in Brooklyn, Iowa, the daughter of Glenn and Pearl (Jewell) Doty. She graduated from Brooklyn High School. In June of 1962, Joan was united in marriage to high school sweetheart Marvin Foster. She worked for the Cedar Rapids Community School District for 30+ years where she enjoyed working with educational staff and students. She loved cake decorating, making “Quigglies” with family, gardening, vacationing, and board games. She was fun-loving, sincere, and never shied away from a good practical joke. Joan was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church and the Cedar Rapids Corvette Club. She will be missed by many.

Survivors include her boyfriend, Mike Williams; son, Brad (Annette) Foster; daughter, Karen Smith (Jim Knupp); grandchildren, Joelle Foster, Tanner Foster, and Peyton Smith; brother, Marvin Doty; and sisters, Lucy (Richard) King and Kay Dieterich.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Pearl Doty; her husband of 37 years, Marvin Foster; and siblings, Ross Doty, Vivian King, Gladys Palmer, Daryl Doty, and Dale Doty.
