Jeanene Marie (Littrel) Cummings, 54, of Marion, formerly of Hudson, passed away at home Saturday, June 30, 2012, surrounded by the love of her family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2012, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. The family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Private Inurnment: Martin Creek Cemetery at a later date.
Jeanene was born July 16, 1957, the daughter of Ward and Patricia (Durnin) Littrel in Fargo, North Dakota. On May 7, 1977, she married Robert Gene Cummings, Jr. at St. Mary’s of Mt. Carmel Church in Eagle Center, Iowa.
Jeanene fought a courageous battle against colon cancer and her strength, determination and positive outlook allowed her to beat the odds over the past 14 months in order to spend more time with the people she loves.
Jeanene is survived by her devoted husband of 35 years, Robert Cummings of Marion; her loving son and daughter, Joshua Cummings and wife Caris of Cedar Rapids and Stevie Cummings of Marion; her parents, Ward and Patricia Littrel of Hudson; a sister, Teresa Peachee of Lancaster, California; and a brother, David Littrel of Waterloo.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Littrel.
Jeanene’s lifetime love of gardening was a passion she shared with her father and her green thumb was evident to anyone visiting her house and gardens. She also enjoyed going for walks, playing cards, cooking, and caring for others, including two rescued cats. Jeanene treasured her role as a mother and was also described as the “favorite aunt”. Jeanene was not only dedicated to caring for others in her personal life but she also was a CMA and caregiver at R.E.M. Iowa for mentally-challenged adults for 23 years.
Jeanene was the true embodiment of selflessness putting all others before her. The impact that Jeanene has had on so many is self-evident by the holes we all feel in our hearts. Jeanene was a truly amazing woman and will be deeply missed by many but forever remembered. We look forward to the day we are reunited in heaven.
Memorials in Jeanene’s honor may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 4080 1st Avenue NE, Suite 101, Cedar Rapids, IA, 52402.
