James W. Henderson, a resident of Keystone Place, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Coggon and Toddville, died Saturday, August 16, 2014, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at Zion Presbyterian Church, Coggon, by Pastor Leonard Ranson. The family will greet friends from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday, August 18, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; children, Dr. Karla Henderson of Estes Park, CO, Sue (Stan Hill) Henderson of Cedar Rapids, and Lyn (Ivan) McBride of Toddville; three grandchildren, Leanna (Luke) Showman of Huxley, IA, Sarah McBride of Toddville, and Calvin McBride of Toddville; two great-grandchildren, Nora and Ayla Showman; and brother, Robert (Darlene) Henderson of Coggon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Margaret Hill.

Jim was born October 10, 1923, in Coggon, the son of Arthur and Mabel (Drexler) Henderson. He graduated from Coggon High School in 1940. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, having served three years in the European Theater during WWII. He married Marjorie Meints on January 1, 1947, in Ryan, Iowa. Jim was a life-long farmer; he loved the land and was an active soil conservationist. He was a member of the Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon, the Cattlemen’s Association, Sheep Producers, Pork Producers, and the 2-Cylinder Club. Jim was very proud of his service to his country, and attended many Army reunions. He dearly loved his family, and enjoyed traveling, as well as collecting antique farm machinery.

A memorial fund has been established in Jim’s memory.
