James “Jim” R. Hebert, 87, of Marion, passed away Friday, November 9, 2018, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. The family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion where a Parish Vigil Service will begin at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion by Father Mark Kwenin. Inurnment: Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
James was born February 21, 1931, the son of Meddie and Blanche (Dandurand) Hebert in Aurora, Kansas. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Charles City and attended Loras College in Dubuque. On September 2, 1957, he married Eleanor Kathleen Nettleton at St. Mary’s Church in Greene, Iowa. Jim worked at Rockwell Collins for 32 years as a supplies manager before retiring in 1994. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Ellie of Marion; his children, Jay Hebert of Webster, New York, Teri (Brian) Schumacher of Fairfax, Greg Hebert of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jeni (Jeff) White of Toddville and Amy (Steve) McGrane of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Clay (Jamie) Schumacher of Normal, Illinois, Zach (Jane) Schumacher of Yangzaou, China, Conor Schumacher of Fairfax, Luke, Jack, and Aidan McGrane, all of Cedar Rapids, and Maia and Jenny Hebert of Webster, New York; and two great-grandchildren, Grace and JoJo Schumacher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and three sisters.
Jim was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals Fan (in spite of his wife Ellie being a lifelong Chicago Cubs Fan)!! He was a kind and loving man, an all-around good guy and gentleman. Jim enjoyed Cyclone & Hawkeye Football and was an avid basketball fan.
A memorial fund has been established in Jim’s memory.
