James Roger Hanson

James R. Hanson, 91, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Cottage Grove Place. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 3, 2023, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa, with visitation beginning one hour prior to service. Family will greet friends an hour prior to service. Inurnment will be at a later date at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion with full military honors.
James was born on October 28, 1931, in Dickinson, North Dakota, the son of Edwin and Rose (Reis) Hanson. After serving honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict he went on to attend Iowa State Teachers College. On August 8, 1987, James was united in marriage to Julie Lynn Hahn in Marion. He was a teacher for the Marion Independent School District from 1960 until his retirement in 1990. James will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
James is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 35 years, Julie; sister-in-law, Mary Lee Parks of Marion; brother-in-law, Lowell Hunke of Spearfish, South Dakota; six nieces; and seven nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward Ehli; and sisters, Viola Vert, Jeanette Davidson, Marjorie Butts, and Ardella Hunke.
