Greg Morris, 60, of Marion, died of natural causes on Friday, October 21, 2011, at his home. Celebration of Life Service: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, by Rev. Mike Morgan. The family will greet friends form 5 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Survivors include his father, Waldo Morris;; brother, Jon (Peggy) Morris; sisters, Vicky (Duane) Hanus and Nancy (Brad) Mowry; nieces & nephews Jared Morris, Lindsay Duggan, Kelsey, Wyatt & Troy Hanus, Brinkley, Chaz, and Shelby Braden and Colton Mowry; and former wife, Diane Morris.
He was preceded in death by his mother; grandparents, Walter & Margaret Nieland and Lee & Alma Morris; and his beloved dog, Mercury.
Greg was born October 3, 1951, to Waldo and Charlotte (Nieland) Morris, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was employed at Morris & Company, Inc. Greg loved sports and was an outstanding athlete at Marion High School, Normandale Community College in Minneapolis, Minnesota and St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Besides his love for sports, he loved to boat, fish, and enjoyed spending time on his land which he called his “secret oasis.” Greg was a very compassionate and caring person and will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
A Greg Morris Memorial Fund has been established where proceeds will go to Marion High School Football Program.
