Evelyn M. Carson, 86, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Alburnett, died Friday, May 11, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Services: 1:00 pm Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. The family will greet friends from 4-7 pm Monday, May 14, 2012 at the funeral home. Graveside Service: 3:00 pm Tuesday, May 15, 2012, Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills.

Survivors include her children, Linda (Bill) Neustel, of Neosho, MO, James (Judy) Carson of Indianapolis, IN, Kathryne (Frank) Neustel of Central City, and Nancy Carson of Marion; five grandchildren, Jeffery Carson, Tracie (Matthew) Abbott, Matthew (Pamela) Neustel, Joshua (Rebecca) Carson, and Molly Carson; eight great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Taylor Neustel, Jacob and Joseph Carson, Jackson Carson and Kristin Francy, and Mason and Brodie Abbott; and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of nearly 58 years, Leland; a son Michael Carson; and a sister Betty Lou Nelson.

Evelyn was born March 23, 1926 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Robert W. and Ellen (Moss) Comreid. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1944. On January 17, 1947 she married Leland H. Carson at the Little Brown Church, in Nashua.

Evelyn worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for 25 years in the Marion and Central City area. She was a longtime member of the Alburnett United Methodist Church and a Charter member of United Methodist Women there. More recently, she was a member at the Kenwood Park United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.

First and foremost, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Evelyn also enjoyed doing crafts, oil panting, ceramics and was a published poet.
