On March 7, 2024, Ellen Marie Webber, with pointer fingers out, sashayed through the gates of heaven where she was met by her father and brother, who promptly offered her a drink. The party, we’re sure, is still ongoing.

Ellen was born on October 16th, 1965 to Mabel and George Banwell of Nashua. She was number 5 of 8 siblings, and enjoyed both bossing around her younger two sisters and causing general shenanigans and chaos with them. Ellen graduated from Nashua High School in 1984 with honors. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Yearbook editor/Videographer for the boys basketball, FHA, and the Peppy Pixies 4-H club. She was also senior class president and looked forward to the honor of being responsible for future class reunions. Let’s be honest, she loved being in charge and planning a party!

Buena Vista College is where Ellen earned her degrees in English and Psychology. Upon graduation, she worked in mental health, retail and most recently alongside her husband in property management and real estate after earning her broker’s license. Ellen married “the luckiest man in the world”, Aaron Webber, in 1995. They made their home in Marion and welcomed two smart, talented, and beautiful daughters, Isabelle and Olivia. Her daughters and husband were the shining light of her life. She reveled in being their biggest cheerleader; whether it was volleyball, a music concert, a show choir or marching band competition, she was always there, and she was ALWAYS the loudest clapper. Recently, Ellen was inducted into the Marion Performing Arts Hall of Fame. The irony wasn’t lost on Ellen, as she readily acknowledged her lack of musical prowess. What she lacked in talent, paled in comparison to her excitement for the excellence within the arts community. As she liked to remind us, you can’t spell excELLENence without Ellen!

Ellen’s interests were many but enjoyed spending her free time bottom up in her gardens, drinking coffee and other libations with her family, friends, and pets on their deck and doing “truck things”. She loved estate sales and scoring new additions to her expansive button collection, along with anything orange and interesting. To say she will be missed does not begin to describe the loss we feel.

Ellen is survived by her Husband, Aaron Webber, Daughters, Isabelle (Jude Aboagye) Webber and Olivia Webber, mother, Mabel Banwell, four sisters Donna (Richard) Prouty, Joann (Dave) Hemmer, Carol (Mike) Spear, Patricia (Scott) Sheldon, two brothers, Richard (Carla) Banwell, and Bill (DeAnna) Banwell. Also survived by sixteen nieces and nephews, as well as 12 great-nieces and nephews. Ellen was preceded in death by her brother, George Gerard Banwell, her father, George James Banwell, her mother-in-law, Judy Marlene Webber, and grandparents Richard & Leona Croell, and George & Cicely Banwell.

A visitation will be held at Ashton Hill Farm in Cedar Rapids on Thursday March 14th from 4pm-7pm. Her family and friends will be making remarks and sharing their favorite memories beginning around 6pm. The family requests that you wear something orange.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday March 15th, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marion, Iowa, with Father Sean Smith officiating the mass. A reception will follow in the basement of the church.

In lieu of flowers, the Webber family requests you send donations to their gofundme which will be used to cover funeral expenses and medical bills. https://gofund.me/1adc72ea All further information can be found at Murdoch Funeral Home site.
