Douglas “Doug” James Ryan, 71, of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Visitation will be from 4 - 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Central City. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 7. 2023, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Central City. A burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Prairieburg, Iowa, with military honors provided by the Iowa Army National Guard Honors Detail.
Doug was born on January 14, 1952, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of James and Eleanor (Sperfslage) Ryan. He achieved ‘Life Scout’ in Boy Scouts of Monona, Iowa and received the Governor’s Award from Governor Vilsack for volunteerism. Doug served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. In September 2003, Doug was united in marriage to Cheryl Lloyd in Prairieburg, Iowa at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 12136. He worked at Rockwell Collins and he was a row crop farmer. Doug will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Doug is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Cheryl; brother, Steven J. Ryan of Le Grand, Iowa; sister, Mary I. Ryan of Seattle, Washington; and grandson, Tyler D. Ryan of Manchester, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
