Donald Wayne Jordan, 96, of Central City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at Hiawatha Care Center. A Memorial Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at American Legion Post #298 in Marion. A Celebration of Life Gathering will follow from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, at the legion. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills.
Donald was born September 6, 1922, in Marion, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Pearl (Domer) Jordan. He graduated from Alburnett High School. On June 20, 1942, Donald married the love of his life, Bernice Peyton. He served in the United States Army 194th Glider Infantry as a paratrooper during World War II, surviving the Battle of the Bulge and earning a Purple Heart. Donald was employed by Peyton and Parson Rock Quarry, Honeymead Grain Company, Chester Construction, and then O.F. Paulson Construction Company, retiring in 1985. He was a charter member of the Troy Mills American Legion Floyd Williamson Post #721and a member of Marion American Legion Post #298.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice Jordan of Central City; his son, Gale (Patricia) Jordan of Central City; five grandchildren, Todd (Heather) Pentico, Brian (Amanda) Schirm, Tricia (Kevin) Redig, Sarah (Jeffrey) Werling, and Trent Jordan; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, William Jordan of Apache Junction, Arizona; sons-in-law, Carl Pentico and Lindy (Teresa McQuillen) Schirm; and many additional family members and close friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Teresa Schirm and Jeanette Pentico; granddaughter, Lisa Riess; sisters, Fern Candler and Arlene Blackford; and brother, LeRoy Jordan.
Memorials may be directed in Donald’s memory to the American Legion Post #298 of Marion and the American Legion Floyd Williamson Post #721 of Troy Mills.
