Derek Lance Butterfield, 20, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, August 6, 2006, at University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City. Services: 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Kathleen Moore. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2006, at the funeral home. A gathering of family and friends will also be held following the service with details to be announced at that time.
Survivors include his mother, Cindy Butterfield of Cedar Rapids; his brother, Lucas McMurrin of Cedar Rapids; stepfather, Lewie McMurrin of Cedar Rapids; maternal grandparents, Patricia Nolan and Russell Schueler, both of Cedar Rapids; paternal grandparents, Nancy Kelly and Ronald Hofland of Cedar Rapids; uncles, Todd and Tim Butterfield, James Michael Kimpton, Jack and Joe Barger, and Nick Brummer; aunt, Frankie Butterfield; cousins, Eric, Julie, Jamie, and Jessica, and Tressa Butterfield, Heather Ahrens, Jacob Garr, Jimmy Kimpton, Jr., Hunter Clark, Kaleb and Jaden Kimpton; and his dog Chino.
He was preceded in death by his father, Terry; his grandfather, Jim Kimpton; and an uncle, Tracy Butterfield.
Derek was born September 7, 1985, the son of Terry and Cindy Schueler Butterfield, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He loved his "big boy toys?, which included remote control cars and four-wheelers, and his pit bull. Derek also enjoyed playing golf, tattooing, art drawing, basketball and music.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Derek.
