Daniel J. Meade, 50, of 55 Robins Road, Hiawatha, died Monday, December 15, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. Services: 6:30 p.m., Thursday, December 18, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Rev. Jim Langley. The family will greet friends from 4:00 until service time on Thursday. Burial will be at a later date at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Walker.
Survivors include his parents, Ray & Ragine Meade of Walker; a daughter, Lindsay Meade of Cedar Rapids; 1 brother, Patrick (Dana) Meade of San Francisco, and 1 sister, Mary (Jeff) Webb of Hiawatha. Also surviving is his former wife, Patti Horton of Cedar Rapids; 3 nieces and 1 nephew.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and 1 nephew, Andy Webb.
Dan was born October 2, 1958, the son of Ray and Ragine (Orf) Meade, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from North Linn High School in 1977 where he was named to the “All Tournament Team” at the Iowa High School Basketball Tournament in Des Moines. Dan was also a state high jump champion. He graduated from NIACC in Mason City in 1979 and from Coe College in 1981 with a degree in business. While attending college, he was a member of the basketball team and at Coe, was named “First Team All Conference.”
Dan was a loving father, son and brother. He was passionate about his daughter’s life and loved his time spent with her and attending all of her activities. Dan touched lives in many ways and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dan’s memory.
