Dale J. Taylor, 89, of Central City, died Sunday, September 19, 2010 at his granddaughters’ home in Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 24, 2010 at the United Church of Christ in Central City, Iowa, by Rev. Mark Woldruff. The family will greet friends from 4–7 p.m., Thursday, September 23, 2010, at the Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Central City. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City, Iowa.
Survivors include his children, John (Beverly) Taylor, Mary Taylor, and Marla Taylor; grandchildren, Lynette (Glenn) Senter, Lisa Taylor, Laura Taylor, April Smith, Lori Hollingshead, Cindy (Curtis) Bunker, Sara (Eric) Throener, and Matt Wisgerhof; great and great-great grandchildren, Justin Hanson, Alex Floyd, Anthony Floyd, Lucas Floyd, Stephen Taylor, Michael Taylor, Spencer Taylor, Alec Taylor, Christian Taylor, Taylor Smith, Samantha (Dean) Schnepf, Josh (Tausha) Hollingshead, Nick (Sara) Hollingshead, Brad Hollingshead, Abby Bunker, David (Lisa) Hayes, Dan Hayes, Caroline Throener, Kayleigh Faulkner, Jack Hollingshead, Morgan Hollingshead, Isabelle Hollingshead, Tylor Hayes, Kyle Hayes, Tristin Hayes, Alayna Hayes, Landon Hayes, Bricen Hayes, and Axten Schnepf.; siblings, Barton (Jean) Taylor, Grover (Edith) Taylor, Lucille Schlagle, Nellie Wood, Ruth Wiley, and Lena Bruce.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mabel; grandson, Joseph L. Grommon, Jr., and great-granddaughter, Meagan Hollingshead; and 10 siblings.
Dale was born November 7, 1920, the son of Joseph E. and Nellie (Bowers) Taylor, in Tipton, Iowa. Dale worked as a plumber and electrician for both Butterfield’s and Gamble’s for many years before owning and operating Taylor Plumbing, Heating & Electric, until his retirement at age 86. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching deer and walking the trails at Pinicon Ridge Park. Dale was an avid reader and liked the Cubs and Braves. Dale’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
