Carolyn Ann Bice, 79, of Marion, passed away peacefully, Friday, May 3, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Visitation: 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Service: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church of Marion, by Rev. Mike Morgan. Inurnment: Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery, Van Meter, Iowa.

Survivors include her husband, Richard; three children, Thomas (Kathleen) Bice of Marion, Sara (Jeffrey) Klahs of Long Grove, IL, and Gregory (Laura) Bice of Fountain Hills, AZ; seven grandchildren, Paul, Stefanie, and Allie Bice, Jake, Jordan, and Caleb Klahs, and Cally (Brad) Murray; two great-grandchildren, Kellan and Breyson Murray; and brother, Dr. David (Joyce) Wineinger of Green Bay, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Donald Wineinger.

Carolyn was born June 2, 1933, in Corydon, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd and Rose (Barnes) Wineinger. She grew up in Dexter, Iowa, where her father was her basketball coach and superintendent of the school district. Carolyn was a clarinet player in the Dexter band when President Harry Truman made a whistle stop on the train in 1950. She was an excellent basketball player and carried a 35 point average from 8th grade through her senior year. Carolyn attended Northwest Missouri State for one year, then transferred to the Medical Institute in Minneapolis, graduating as a Lab Tech, and went to work at Broadlawn’s Hospital in Des Moines.

Carolyn was married to Richard Bice on September 11, 1955, in Dexter, Iowa, by Pastor Textor. Carolyn and Richard moved to Pammel Court at Iowa State and had their first child, Tom. She then went to work at Mary Greely Hospital in Ames. In 1959, they moved to Marion, and in 1978, Carolyn and Richard established the Consumer Insurance Services, Inc. Carolyn was very active in the Methodist Church choirs wherever she lived. She loved to travel with her husband, and they had been to most of the countries in Europe and the Far East. In 2006, Carolyn was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and she endured her struggle with great courage. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s events. Carolyn was known for her selfless nature, and had a unique ability to get along with anyone.
