Betty Jeanne Gilchrist, 76, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023, at the Hospice House in Hiawatha, Iowa. Family will greet friends from 10 – 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Alice United Methodist Church located at 4617 Alice Road in Center Point, Iowa, with a Funeral Service to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Alice Cemetery. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family with arrangements.

Betty was born on June 19, 1946, in Center Point, Iowa, the daughter of Clair and Lois (Sherman) Bach. She was a 1964 graduate of Center Point High School and went on to attend Cedar Rapids Business College. Betty was united in marriage to Don Henecke in Tahoe, California and they remained married for 25 years until his death in 1993. On June 12, 2004, Betty and Bill Gilchrist married at Alice United Methodist Church.

Betty was employed by the Kinion Law Firm and, later, by Bechtel, which built the Duane Arnold Energy Plant, and Norand Corporation. For 23 years, she served as a team leader for Weight Watchers. Betty was an avid antique shopper and had an eye for beautiful jewelry. She enjoyed traveling and band concerts in the park. Lunch with friends was one of her favorite pastimes, especially with her close group of friends, affectionately known as the “Fab Four”. Together, they would go on girls’ trips and indulge in Baileys Irish Cream. She most enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters and nieces and nephews. Betty will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Betty is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Bill; brother, Don (Dorothy) Bach of Center Point; stepson, Brian (Molly) Gilchrist of Center Point; step-grandchildren, Masyn and Britley Gilchrist; niece, Shandell (Brad) Larson of Brandon, South Dakota; grandnephews, Caleb and Cameron Larson; and cousin, Leann (Maury) Jones of Marion.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Don; and brother, Richard Bach.
