Betty Bellon, 85, of Fairfax, died Sunday, May 6, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids by Chaplain Bobby Dickerson. The family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the funeral home. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, rural Alburnett, Iowa.
Survivors include two children, Nancy Africa of Fairfax and Frank (Julie) Bellon of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Mark Africa of Fairfax and Jeff Africa of Masonville; three great grandchildren, Sarah (Ben) Harmer, Lindsey Africa and Tyler Africa; three great great grandchildren, Logan, Dalton and Makenah; a sister, Charlotte (Kenneth) Brown of Toddville; a brother, Robert ( Marlene) Steadman of Hiawatha; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Joyce (Donovan) Brown.
Betty was born June 1, 1926, the daughter of Clarence and Lovena (Kessler) Steadman in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Betty attended Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids. On May 27, 1942, in Missouri, she married Howard F. Bellon. They settled in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she raised her family. She was a former member of VFW Auxillary in Cedar Rapids. Betty’s family was the love of her life.
