Barbara Ann Marcus, 77, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016, in Cedar Rapids following a one year battle with cancer. Per Barbara’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, conducted by Vicki Standley. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Private committal service will take place at a later date.
Barbara was born September 26, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, the only child of Jack and Helen (Blecha) Marcus, whom have preceded her in death. She taught high school English for over 30 years at Lemont High School in Lemont, Illinois and was also very active with the high school drama club. Barb got the nick name “squeaky as a mouse” which turned into a life-long love of collecting mice. She never married and after retiring she moved to Cedar Rapids to be close to her extended family. Once in Cedar Rapids, Barb joined the First United Methodist Church in Marion where she became active in many church activities including a Christian clown troup, Methodist Women Group, and many bible studies.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church in Marion, or the American Cancer Society.
