Jean Lucille Royce Barkley, age 92, of Marion, IA, recently residing at Windmill Manor in Coralville, passed away from complications of Alzheimer’s on May 10, 2015. Prayer Service: 5:00 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, conducted by Rev. Peter Mitchell. The family will greet friends following the prayer service at the funeral home on Thursday until 7:00 p.m. Graveside Committal: 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2015, at Ottumwa Cemetery, Ottumwa, Iowa.

Lucille was born July 11, 1922 the daughter of Arnold and Nina Miller in Ottumwa, IA.
She married high school classmate Frank Royce after Frank’s service in World War II. They raised two sons, Russell and Richard. Frank passed away in 1976. She then married Jack Barkley, and gained two daughters, Judy (deceased) and Barb. They were together until Jack passed away in 1998.

Lucille was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star and very active in her church, Marion Christian Church. She worked in various clerical capacities at the State Capital during WWII, finally finishing her career at the Superintendent’s Office of Marion Independent Schools.
Lucille was an accomplished seamstress making clothes for herself, family, and friends; always having a project, she could knit, tat, embroider or any other activity that involved a needle and thread.

She was a woman that cared for her family and others, and was loved by all that knew her.
Lucille is survived by her sons, Russell (Vicki) Royce and Richard Royce, both of Cedar Rapids; her stepdaughter, Barb Barkley of Marion; and Russ and Vicki’s six grandchildren, who called her “Great Grandma Lucille”.

The family wishes to thank Windmill Manor for making Lucille’s final time on earth a pleasant one.
